The effects of age on the heart are scarcely characterized and there are no relevant models of cardiac aging in the human species. One of the bottlenecks in the study of the main electromechanical changes intrinsically associated with age and their molecular mechanisms make it difficult to develop non-invasive tools for the early detection of the risk of suffering arrhythmias and to create new preventive therapies or treatments.

The main objective of this project is to establish a model of human cardiac aging and discover electrophysiological markers associated with age. The in vitro model is based on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) with the ability to longitudinally mimic the intrinsic effects of age on electromechanical dysfunction
